Sproul Sr. You will laugh, you might cry, and you may want to do it all over again. With nearly 80 Basement Tapes to choose from, you can always come back for more.
Visit the Basement Tapes category at our Online Store for the complete listing of The Basement Tapes.

So, what are The Basement Tapes?
The Basement Tapes are conversations among friends that seek to instruct in and to embody the very purpose of the Highlands Study Center — to live more simple, separate and deliberate lives to the glory of God and for the building of His kingdom. These conversations are a by-product of a short-lived live radio show that we did back in 2001. The depth and richness of just having a conversation on the goodness of God drove us to continue recording these conversations even after we went off the air. We pick a subject, sit down and talk. No scripts, no outlines, just conversation.

Get The Basement Tapes by supporting the Highlands Study Center.
The Basement Tapes are available for purchase at our Online Store, but are also given to those who commit to supporting the work of the Highlands Study Center every month. We call these, with our usual flair, the "You Get a Tape" and "You Get Everything" programs, though what you get are CDs or MP3 downloads. We want those who stand with us to join in these conversations.

How Strong Is He: Almighty Over Suffering
Being As Children: Wonder

These MP3s are talks taken from some of our Sound Teaching Bible studies, given by R.C. Sproul Jr. Each of these MP3s are about 45 minutes long and cover a number of different subjects. Please visit the Sound Teaching category of our Online Store for more Sound Teaching.

More about Sound Teaching.
Sound Teaching is just that, sound teaching. But we pray it is still more. Our goal with each of our series is, in fitting with our purpose, to help Christians live more simple, separate, and deliberate lives for the glory of God and for the building of His kingdom. These series are recorded during our Tuesday Night Bible Studies that are held weekly in Bristol, TN. Feel free to visit anytime.

About the Sound Teaching MP3s.

Being As Children

Wonder, from Being As Children.
In Being As Children, R.C. Sproul Jr. teaches that Scripture commands that we mature, that we grow, that we move into wisdom, and that we be as children. This series considers the meaning and joy of embracing our inner child, arguing that this is the mark of maturity. In Wonder, R.C. looks at how Christians make the mistake of thinking that God was bound by rules when He created. Instead, R.C. says, we need to look at the creation for what it is, a theater for God to display His glory, and for us to enjoy in boundless wonder.

How Strong is He

Almighty Over Suffering, from How Strong is He?
The sovereignty of God is not just a doctrine. It is instead a promise. It is not merely something we study, but it is something we rest in. For the Almighty One is our Father, who art in heaven. We, His beloved children, ought to come freely, wrapping our little fingers around His strong right arm, as we ask with hope and confidence, "How Strong Is He?" Our great and powerful Father has not only adopted us, but spoken to us in His Word. In this study we consider what our Father has revealed to us. We scan the very scope of reality, resting in the knowledge that He is almighty over all, that not only can nothing defeat Him, but that all things, in the end, find their beginning in Him. In Almighty Over Suffering we learn that God is indeed sovereign over suffering and pain, and we learn why God gives us this gift.

The Three G's
The Son of God Goes Forth to War
A Church: The Documentary

Here is the place where we put the "extra" stuff, recordings that are not part of any of our regular series but we think are either valuble or just fun to have.

About the "Extras" MP3s:

The Three G's

The Three G's.
This talk was recorded at the NICHE of Iowa homeschool convention in 2005. This talk is taken from R.C. Sproul Jr.'s book on homeschooling called When You Rise Up: A Covenantal Approach to Homeschooling and is a popular talk that he gives at homeschool conventions. In this talk, R.C. tells us that what we need to be teaching our children are the Three G's: Who God Is, What God Has Done, and What God Requires.
See the book When You Rise Up at our Online Store.

The Son of God Goes Forth to War
Music by Gregory D. Wilbur, Arranged and Performed by Maker's Mark.

R.C. Sproul Jr., wanting a fine piece of music for the intro to our Sound Teaching studies, chose this song. He then asked if Jonathan Daugherty and his band Maker's Mark would break out the banjos and do a folk arrangement of the song. It now graces our Bible studies in pieces, and for those who know, it is a bonus track on all the series. Now, we present this song to you right here in all its glory. Please pass it around, but don't forget to give credit to the men who brought it to you.

A Church

A Church: The Documentary
Back in 2004, a young man named Jonathan Landell came to visit Saint Peter Presbyterian Church, the Highlands Study Center, and our little community. Intrigued by our desire to live simple, separate, and deliberate lives for the glory of God and for the building of His kingdom, and a scepticism of such a community, Jonathan decided to document his experiences here. Recorded over a two year period and several trips to Bristol from Vermont, and edited from over a hundred hours of recorded coversations, Jonathan Landell created this brilliant and moving 70 minute audio documentary about his time here. And for those of you who pay attention, he's still here.
