Government was the topic of last night's Basement Tapes conversation, the seventh in the series. Despite what you might think, it wasn't simply an opportunity to spend 75 minutes fussing and groaning about the U.S. federal government. We talked about government as a broad concept, a means established by God for the administration of authority, and how there are in fact four separate spheres of government to consider: the individual, the family, the state, and the church. And we talked about what problems arise when one sphere of government begins encroach upon the God-given responsibilities of another. Which, of course, gave us ample opportunity to fuss and groan about the U.S. federal government, the Great Encroacher. But there was much more.

Three weeks? Meaning, three weeks since this weblog was updated? It's not that life at the study center has been uneventful, it's that the webmaster has been remiss in posting news of the events. Repentance and recommitment are in order; from now on, look for new items to be added daily during the week.

Summer Camp. Interest in the Summer Camp for Couples remains strong, and we're still full, but just barely--the waiting list is not as long as it used to be. If you wish you could attend and can be flexible enough to arrange to come on relatively short notice, you really ought to have your name on the waiting list; already two couples who were on the waiting list will now be attending.

It doesn't cost anything but a phone call (to 877-244-5184) or an email (to saenz@draughthorsepress.com) to have your name added to the list. If and when a slot opens up, I will start calling down the list until I contact a couple who wants to come and agrees to send their $75 deposit immediately; if I receive the deposit within a few days they are confirmed as attendees, otherwise I start calling down the list again.

Storm. Last night about 9:30pm a storm began to move into the Bristol area. For over an hour it was just increasingly intense lightning and thunder; then at 10:45pm a major rainstorm/hailstorm began, lasting perhaps twenty minutes and leaving a couple of inches of golfball-sized hail behind, along with what looked to be relatively minor damage. Much of the ice is still around this morning, even though the temperature never dropped much below 50 degrees.

Some personal notes can be found on the Dry Creek Chronicles weblog.

What is this? This is a sort of online journal where the webmaster, and perhaps others, will be able to post HSC news items that are too lengthy to fit into a home page slot. Apologies for going public with this before I had time to make the design consistent with the rest of the website; that should happen in the near future.
