Hosting a Conference

If you are excited about what you are learning from Highlands Ministries and R.C. Sproul Jr., you may be interested in sponsoring an event at your church or having him speak at your conference. We realize that not everyone can take time off work and find baby-sitters for several days in order to attend a Couples Camp or one of our conferences. Thus, we have set up a conference schedule for 2008-2009 that we will bring to you. A full weekend of teaching at one affordable (for almost any church) and all-inclusive expense (call for more details).

We want this to be as simple as possible for you and your church. You just have to determine when to hold it and where to have it and you can have a great conference for your church. To learn as R.C. opens up and teaches the Scriptures is to be challenged in your heart, in your mind, and in your life. When we become a little more like Jesus, we change our lives and our family's lives. When we do that we start to change the world for Christ.

Topics for Your Conference

We have several topics already set up on a teaching schedule (see sample Schedule below), however, anything that R.C. has taught on for our Sound Teaching studies or any of the books he has written can be used as conference material as well. If you have a particular theme you'd like him to cover, he'd be happy to help.

Some topics that Dr. Sproul regularly teaches on include:

Homeschooling, from When You Rise Up
Apologetics and worldview, from Tearing Down Strongholds
The Sovereignty of God, from Almighty Over All and How Strong is He?
The Promises of God, from Believing God
The Covenant Family, from Bound for Glory.

The Covenant Family

God's first malediction, His first pronouncement of His displeasure, came before the fall of Adam and Eve, before even the appearance in the garden of the serpent. God, the Scriptures tell us, said that it was "not good that man should be alone." So God made a helper suitable for him. To better understand the calling of husbands and wives, of families together, we have to answer first one simple question — helper for what? What is the purpose for which God brought man and woman together?

The law of God does not merely tell us what we must do and must not do. It also tells us what we are for, our reason for being. Because we reflect Him, even as His law reflects Him, we cannot keep His law until we know what we are for. God made us for dominion, that we might make known His glory in all of our labors. And He has called husband and wife to make known that glory, to exercise that dominion in and through the dance that is the godly family. He has bound us by His law. He has bound us by His grace. And He has bound us together such that we are bound for glory.

Friday evening: (three sessions)

I. The Goal of the Family
The family does not exist for our peace, our comfort, even our joy. It exists instead to make known the glory of God. In this talk we look purpose, and find that when we die to self, we live. When we seek His glory, we find our joy.

II. The Covenant Husband
God has called husbands to lead in their homes, to be Christ to their wives, to be for the family a prophet, a priest and a king. The authority given to husbands and fathers was not given for their privilege, but for the service of the kingdom. Here we will consider what it means to wash our wives with the water of the Word, to pray with and for them, and to lead them toward the fullness of the kingdom of God.

III. Questions and Answers

Saturday: (three sessions)

IV. The Covenant Wife
God has called wives to submit to their own husbands. And we modern evangelicals reply, "Yes, but…." Because we are evangelical we have to agree with the Bible. Because we are moderns we have to kill the plain teaching here through the death of a thousand qualifications. In this talk we will consider God’s qualifications on this command. And we will consider the beauty and the glory of obeying this command.

V. Covenant Children
"Children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right." Simple enough isn’t it? Trouble is, our children are just like us, disobedient. In this talk we will consider the calling of children, and more importantly, what it means to raise our children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. We will, in the end, remember that we too are His children, and that it will go well with us in the land as we obey Him.

VI. The Church: Family of God
What about the singles, the widows, the divorced? What does the Scripture have to say to them? God has ordained the church to be, among other callings, a family to the family-less, to be a place of appeal and safety for those in unfaithful homes. In this talk we will consider the calling and nature of the church, specifically as it relates to the families in her midst, and those in her midst without families.

VII. Questions and Answers

Sunday

Preaching of the Word (if your church so desires)
